About Richmond, Virginia

As you make plans for SOFT’s Annual Meeting this October, please also plan on spending some time in and around our city.  While Richmond is probably most recognized as the Capital of the Confederacy, it is home to many cultural and historical contributions in the development of this Nation.  Richmond is a growing city that has a small town feel - it has world class business and the spirit of hopeful entrepreneurialism - it is rooted in transformational history and is in the process of re-inventing itself.  We hope that you discover its charm, its wonder, its legacy, and its future!

In order to plan your trip, of course, you can visit a host of Richmond websites.  Below are a couple of our favorites:

Richmond Travel Guide:  www.visitrichmondva.com
Virginia Is For Lovers:  www.virginia.org

Since I love this city – and I want you to make the most of your time here, I’m going to recommend to you some of my favorite places to visit and things to do.

SOFT Student Enrichment Program

This year, the SSEP will host a day long workshop on forensic toxicology for secondary education teachers.  The workshop has 2 goals: (I) to help educators develop exciting lectures and lesson plans that will help young aspiring forensic scientists know and understand the basic tenements of forensic toxicology and (ii) to also use forensic toxicology as inspiration  to address Standards of Learning.

Teachers will spend the morning in lectures on the principles of forensic toxicology, post-mortem toxicology, DWI, and forensic urine drug testing.  The lectures will be illustrated heavily with casework and real data which can be taken back into the classroom to use as illustration in your lectures.  You will work on labs in the afternoons that demonstrate principles learned in the lectures and that you can easily deliver in your classroom.

Only FIFTY seats will be available for this workshop on October 17, 2010.  Please check back to this page for information regarding registration.

Registration is FREE!  Click registration form.doc for the registration!
